The first Onoto plunger-filler pen for more than 50 years!
The first fully-functioning Onoto plunger-filler for over 50 years, incorporating a beautiful sterling silver overlay by Henry Simpole, is now available in a limited edition of just 100 pens worldwide.
Innovative and unique
Following the fine tradition of Onoto plunger-filling pens which started with the very first Onoto in 1905 and continued through the 1920s, 30s and 40s, the Onoto Heritage is a pen with a superb pedigree.
A firm favourite
The plunger-filling system was eventually superseded in the 1950s partly because of the cost of manufacturing such an intricate mechanism and partly because of the fashion for more streamlined pens. However, it remained a firm favourite with Onoto enthusiasts and collectors around the world, and now, following many requests, the recreation of an Onoto plunger-filling pen has become a reality – The Onoto Heritage.
This is truly a pen which shouts 'Heritage' at every turn - but with a twist! It has an impeccable lineage and has been developed using original Onoto drawings: the same slim lines; the same push-fit cap; the same plunger-filler vacuum system. However, key components are now made from better materials than those which existed 100 years ago. For example, the plunger rod is made of carbon fibre; the cup valves are a special silicone rubber and there's an ingenious 3 washer seal that we believe gives a much longer life than the original cork seals. This makes the brand new Onoto Heritage virtually maintenance free.
Huge ink capacity
What’s more, the ink capacity is nearly 2½ times the capacity of a standard K5 converter so you have much longer writing time than most modern fountain pens.
Cut off valve prevents leaking
And, just like the original plunger-filler, The Heritage also features a cut-off valve which seals the ink reservoir when the pen isn't in use. Simply turn the valve by half a turn and it's ready to write! You'll see the similarities between the original plunger-filler and the new 'Heritage' in the poster shown here, reproduced from a 1920s edition of 'Punch'.
Beautiful silver overlay cap by Henry Simpole
Like many early Onotos, the Heritage has a filigree sterling silver overlay. This beautiful art nouveau styled cap was designed by Henry Simpole and includes the word "Onoto" hidden in the elaborate pattern. The silver is hallmarked with the London Assay mark and carries the edition number of the pen.
Made in England – just like vintage Onotos
The Onoto Heritage is completely hand-made in England and bears the words ‘ONOTO THE PEN
Made in England’
engraved on the barrel just like many of the vintage Onoto pens of the last century when famous patrons like Winston Churchill, Natsume Soseki and Field Marshall Haig relied on their Onoto pens to communicate great words of wisdom.
The Onoto Heritage is being issued in a worldwide limited edition of just 100 pens. As the first fully-functioning Onoto plunger-filler for over 50 years, early indications show that demand is likely to be substantial.
