The Essence of Contemporary Dance
Commissioned by the Royal Opera House to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the founding of The Royal Ballet, the Contemporary range uses an image of two ballet dancers as the basis for a design which has been translated into enamel over guilloché engraved 18ct gold.
The strong, elegant image and the bold, vibrant colours capture perfectly the strength, fluidity and movement of contemporary dance. The pens are available in three different colours, white, ruby and blue, each one in an edition of just 75 worldwide.
Each pen bears ‘The Royal Ballet’ inscription around the cap and the figure ‘75’ is embossed on the end of the cap to commemorate the anniversary.
Meticulous craftsmanship
The meticulous craftsmanship involved in the production of each pen has changed very little since Carl Fabergé perfected these techniques over 100 years ago.
First, the evocative dancer icon (right) is engraved into the body of the pen onto the background pattern called Foxhead. Then the wonderful translucent coloured enamel is hand-applied over the pattern using a goose quill before being kiln fired at temperatures up to 1000°C. The dancer icon is then high-lighted in black enamel.
The result is simply stunning! The pen glows with quality. As a personal gift or presentation for anyone who is either involved in dance or loves ballet, it has no equal.
