NEW - The Aviator

There's always something new and the last few months have been prolific in terms of new models and additions to existing ranges.

First up this edition is The Aviator, a magnificent sterling silver pen that's been issued as a tribute to the genius of RJ Mitchell, the designer of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire.

Mitchell, or 'RJ' as he was always known, honed his aviation design skills on a range of aircraft which were involved in competing for the Schneider Trophy - an international competition designed to test speed and agility around a marked course. Mitchell's Supermarine S6B won in 1931 at an average speed of
340mph (547km/h) flying 7 perfect laps of the triangular course over the Solent, between the Isle of Wight and the British mainland. 17 days later, another Supermarine S6B flown by the same pilot, Flt. Lt. John Boothman, broke the world air speed record reaching 407.5mph (655.67km/h).

The S6B (below) is still on display in The Science Museum, London.

Supermarine S6B

The evolution from the Schneider Trophy-winning S6B of 1931 into the prototype Spitfire K6054 which first flew in 1936, is obvious. The need for speed and manoeuvrability were paramount for both - and Mitchell, aided by the power of Rolls Royce engines, achieved them superbly.

The sleek, aerodynamic lines of the S6B with its ridged fuselage, designed by Mitchell to cool the engine oil, is the inspiration behind the highly tactile barrel and cap of The Aviator.

Whether purchased as a gift for someone who loves flying or as a ‘signature’ pen for your own desk, this pen has great heritage and is issued in a limited edition of 100.

'Blue Ice' - the latest addition to the Magna Classic range...

The Magna Classic range is now firmly established as the flagship of the 'new' Onoto - and no wonder! The size and shape of all the pens in the range echo the magnificent 1937 Onoto Magna and include the 2-thin and 1-thick cap bands which gave that pen its identity.
Onoto Magna Classic Blue Ice 1
The latest addition to the range is another eye-catching acrylic colour that we are calling 'Blue Ice'. Like the Mandarin Yellow and Burnt Orange Magna Classics we released last Autumn, Blue Ice has also been produced in very limited numbers - this time just 50 are available.
Blue Ice 3
'Blue Ice' carries a subtle chased pattern and is available with either an 18ct gold or SS nib.

Magna Classic Blue Ice - Order Now
To order one of these superb pens, you'll need to move very quickly. The details are currently being set up on the website, so if you'd like to make an early reservation, just drop an email to and we'll make sure one (or more!) is reserved in your name.
Plus more choice of fittings... in silver or gold

When we launched the Magna Classic range, we fitted what we felt was the most appropriate clip and cap ring combination to each pen. Some had silver fittings, others were gold-plated.

Since then, we have received many requests from customers for silver fittings where gold were fitted as standard - and vice versa. And as you know, we always listen to our customers! So you can now select your preferred combination on any of the pens in the Magna Classic range. Simply enter your preference in the Comments box when you get to the Shopping Cart and we will make it for you. All our pens are made to order, so allow up to 28 days for delivery.

It's not only on the Magna Classic range that you've got the choice of gold or silver fittings. The same options apply on the Churchill Pinstripe and the Charles Dickens range too.
 NEW - The Burlington
Burlington Arcade

Commissioned by the owners of The Burlington Arcade in London, this stunning pen has already generated significant interest from pen collectors across the Atlantic.

It's been issued in a limited edition of just 50 and is available either direct from ourselves or from Penfriend in the Arcade.

The cap of The Burlington is milled from Sterling Silver with a stylish 'Night & Day' pattern popular in the 1920s. It's a push-fit cap, similar to the Onoto Overlay No 1 pen by Henry Simpole. There is also a silver ring around the top of the barrel which bears large  hallmarks including The Queen's Diamond Jubilee mark only available during 2012.

Here's what Steve Kaiser from USA said about his new Burlington on Facebook.

"Just inked my first Onoto--a new Burlington (#2). What a buttery smooth and fantastic writer with great balance as well. Flawless."

The details of The Burlington won't be available on the website for a week or two, so if you are interested just email us ( and mention that you'd like to receive more details of this magnificent pen. There's no obligation.
Congratulations, James!

Onoto Chairman, James Boddy, has just completed a marathon walk across the north of Spain.

Starting in South West France, he's walked the Camino de Santiago (in English it's 'The Way of St James') to Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain, then on to Finisterre (thought to be the edge of the world before Columbus discovered the Americas) and back to Santiago.

He's walked well over 1000 km in 6 weeks... some days covering more than 50 kms! Not bad for a 68-year-old!
