The Sir Winston Churchill Pinstripe

The first in a range of official Sir Winston Churchill pens by Onoto

"Send me a new Onoto pen. I have stupidly lost mine."

Winston Churchill, 23 November 1915

Historic link with Onoto

When Winston Churchill wrote to his wife Clementine from the trenches in Northern France in November 1915 in the early stages of The Great War, asking for ‘a new Onoto pen’, it was recognition that a Great British pen brand had found favour by the Greatest Briton that ever lived (1).

Records show Churchill used Onoto pens for much of his writing throughout WWI, and WWII.  As a writer and communicator, a pen was possibly his most important tool; as he once said “I have always earned my living by my pen ….”(2)

How appropriate then that almost 100 years later, The Onoto Pen Company should be chosen to produce a range of pens to celebrate Churchill’s life and, in particular, his love of writing.

Licensed by Churchill Heritage

The Sir Winston Churchill Fountain Pen range is officially authorised by Churchill Heritage and the proceeds support good causes and educational initiatives associated with preserving the heritage and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill.

Sir Winston’s signature on each pen

A facsimile of Sir Winston’s short signature - ‘WSC’ - which he used to initial war correspondence and state documents, has been reproduced on the cap’s ‘cigar-style’ sterling silver cap band.

Sir Winston’s signet ring - the family seal

The top of the cap has a sterling silver plaque that is made from a wax casting taken from Sir Winston’s signet ring. It is the Spencer Churchill family seal of a Lion and a Gryphon, and the detail of this intricate engraving is truly amazing.

Sir Winston’s photographs

Each pen comes with a special booklet with a chronology of his life, and a selection of photographs from the family albums.

Onoto nibs – Probably the Best on the market

Put ‘pen to paper’ and you’ll be amazed at the smoothness of the exclusive Onoto #7 nib. You can select either the gold-plated SS version (as standard) or the 18ct gold version for that extra luxury feel.  Both are available in broad, fine or medium widths to suit your handwriting style.

Custom nibs also available

(1) Actual quote from Winston Churchill: “I was very glad that Mr. Attlee described my speeches in the war as expressing the will not only of Parliament but of the whole nation. Their will was resolute and remorseless and, as it proved, unconquerable. It fell to me to express it, and if I found the right words you must remember that I have always earned my living by my pen and by my tongue. It was a nation and race dwelling all round the globe that had the lion heart. I had the luck to be called upon to give the roar.”

(2) In 2002, the BBC commissioned a programme to find The Greatest Briton of all Time, and Sir Winston Churchill won in a nationwide poll attracting more than a million votes.
